The TREND Spot

WORDS BY ANGIE SMITH

PINK AND PURPLE
One colour combination that has been cropping up time and time again on the catwalks for this season is pink and purple. From deep regal shades to softer pastel hues the likes of Balenciaga, Pucci, Lavin and Burberry all had their own take on this look. The perfect solution to liven up your winter wardrobe, accent drab greys and blacks with coloured tights, belts and shoes.

We’re loving…

Holly Willoughby
The safe option at this time of year is always the little black dress but, as Holly Willoughby proves, colour can look just as chic.

Pink was one of the key colours for this season and this beautiful dress by Sara Berman is a gorgeous vibrant shade.

The vintage cut enhances Holly’s curvy figure, highlighting her bust and legs and the hint of bra subtly ties the outfit together drawing attention to those fantastic shoes.

We’re laughing…

Britney Spears
Where do you start with Britney? The faux fur and even fauxer hair extensions look cheap and tacky, while the choker and ankle straps cut off her neck and legs truncating her body. A much more flattering option, would be a nude shoe as this would add length by disguising the point where the leg ends and foot begins, but really, that’s the least of her worries!

ACCESSORY OF THE MONTH

Cinched in waist belts
If you have a great waist, this is the season to accentuate it. Ladies with a more straight-up-and-down silhouette should be sure to wear a skirt that falls above the knee using the belt to highlight their slimmest part (around the ribcage). But most importantly, if you want to avoid looking like you are carrying a spare tire on you back ensure the belt fits comfortably!

FASHION DIARY

The only place to be in January is Paris for the Haute Couture shows. Strictly invitation only, the catwalk offerings from Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Jean Paul Gautier are the highlight of every fashionista’s year.

At the opposite end of the decadence scale are the London College of Fashion Graduate shows. One of the best places to spot the brightest stars of tomorrow, these shows have launched the careers of designers such as Alexander McQueen, Sophia Kokosalaki and Matthew Williamson.
